Dear Parents/Carers

Hello and welcome back – a happy new year to you all. I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas. The autumn term was long and busy for everyone and the children, especially, were in need of a change and rest. I am pleased to see that they have come back to school rested, refreshed and eager to learn. This letter is to let you know what topics we shall be covering this spring term.

Literacy

We shall continue with the phonics programme. We will be sharing a variety of different texts including fiction and non-fiction. Within literacy this term we shall also be looking at Traditional tales.

Numeracy

Basic counting and recognition of numbers to 20 and higher for the more able. Place value and ordering, simple addition and subtraction problems, and simple problems involving money.

PE

We shall now be doing PE on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure that the children have a named PE kit in school as we have had numerous items lost already!

Science

Light and dark. This involves identifying light sources and carrying out simple investigations. Our role play area will initially be ‘Light and Dark Land’ where the children can independently explore many interesting aspects of light and dark.

RE

Our topics are Easter and Weddings, during which we hope to visit Great St. Mary’s Church. When covering the topic of weddings it would be really useful for the children to bring in any pictures of weddings that they have been to as this proved so successful when looking at babies last term. I shall notify you as to when this is happening nearer the time.

Mornings are very busy times in school as you may have noticed. To encourage independence, self confidence and to ease the congestion (!) I would like to suggest that the children are now able to be left at the outside door.

At home

For those who I have had consultations with I have suggested ideas for activities for you to do with the children at home. As this is something I often get asked I thought I would let you know what would be beneficial. Thank you once again for your support, and I would also like to say a big thank you for all your kind words and generosity over the Christmas period. If you need any more information please do not hesitate to make an appointment with me over the next few weeks.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Rule.
